Welcome to this month’s installment of the “I Do” Interviews! This month our wedding series features a beautiful couple, Mollie & Matthew, who said their vows on a perfect summer day in 2021.
Mollie & Matthew chose the Terrace Ballroom and adjacent outdoor area at the Pergola for their wedding to accommodate their friends and family. They gathered with us on a beautiful day in July to celebrate the love and commitment that they have pledged to each other.
This interview series is meant to give future couples a chance to hear the wonderful details of wedding experiences from those who have recently been there. Our lovely couples have agreed to share their stories so others can learn everything about their one-of-a-kind wedding and the planning process.
Mollie & Matthew
Wedding Date: July 17, 2021
Wedding Venue: Terrace Ballroom and Pergola
Where are you originally from?
I am originally from New York. I moved to Massachusetts five years ago and absolutely love it!
What do you do for work?
I (Mollie) am a Product Development Engineer at a medical device startup company. I work on turning novel medical product ideas and prototypes into commercial and safe medical products that have the potential to improve the lives of patients.
How did you meet your bride or groom?
Matthew and I met during our senior year of college through mutual friends in our major.
What made you choose Danversport, and this venue/room specifically?
When we were looking for a wedding venue, we knew we wanted to be near the water but also have a lot of greenery in the setting so not a full-on beach wedding.
We also wanted a venue that was classy, elegant, timeless, and not too over-the-top. We fell in love with the pergola area at Danversport, not just because the scenery fit our vision, but also because it felt cozy and comfortable. We knew that when we were up on that pergola getting married, we wanted to view a sea of our loved ones and not have everyone spread out in an area that wasn’t too overwhelming for the crowd.
We felt similarly with the Terrace Ballroom. We wanted a packed dance floor and we got it! From the outside views to the beautiful ballroom, we just knew it was the place where we wanted to get married. We loved the indoor-outdoor feel of the cocktail hour space and it just felt like “us.”
I cried with excitement when we first toured Danversport and it was absolutely perfect on the day of. It was exactly what I envisioned and I wish I could do it all again!
How many guests did you have in attendance roughly?
We had roughly 160 guests which felt like the perfect number for the Terrace Ballroom and pergola.
What did you offer for food/drink?
We chose the open bar, the classic hors d’oeuvres package, lobster bisque, and a choice of prime rib or statler chicken.
We also had the marble wedding cake served with the ice cream bon bon. Our guests LOVED the food! I ate as much as I could on our big day to enjoy it all. Everyone raved about the lobster bisque and the bon bon! The ice cream was the perfect side to an amazing cake!
What was the most magical, moving or special part of the wedding for you?
My favorite part of our day was our ceremony and first look. We read our vows to one another in a private moment on the pergola just after our first look and it was such a special moment that only my husband and I will be able to cherish forever.
Our ceremony also felt so special and we could really feel the love of everyone around us. We included some of our guests in our ceremony and it was just beautiful. I am so glad the rain held out for our ceremony and that we were able to have it under that pergola because it was everything I ever dreamed of!
Did you have a wedding theme?
We didn’t have a specific theme but I would describe our wedding style as elegant and timeless. We had white and cream florals with a lot of greenery and touches of natural wood which felt like the perfect complement to the Terrace Ballroom and pergola.
What type of style was your dress?
My dress felt so perfect for me and matched our “theme.” It was a simple, all silk, fitted gown but with a fun, architectural bow on the back! It was a Martina Liana dress and it was so comfortable. I was able to dance all night!
What was the song you danced to for your first dance?
Our first dance song was Make You Feel My Love, originally by Bob Dylan, covered by Adele. It was on our band’s set list as well so it was awesome to be able to dance to it live. Shout out to our band (The Party Factor!) who was insane and got everyone up and dancing!
Who walked you down the aisle? Both of my parents walked me down the aisle. Both of the groom’s parents walked him down the aisle as well and after the ceremony the four parents decided to walk back down the aisle together which was such a heartfelt touch to the ceremony.
What are/were your plans for your honeymoon?
We went on a mini-moon to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, Maine for a few days after the wedding and we’re planning a big Alaskan adventure for our honeymoon around our one year anniversary.
Our amazing vendors included:
Photographer: Morgan O’Neil Photography
Florals: Petals Inc Peabody
