Welcome to this month’s installment of the “I Do” Interviews! This month our wedding series features a beautiful couple, Mandy and Tuan, who said their vows on a perfect summer day in 2021.
Mandy and Tuan chose the Harborview Ballroom at Danversport for their wedding to accommodate their large, loving families. They gathered with us on a beautiful day in August to celebrate the love and commitment that they have pledged to each other.
This interview series is meant to give future couples a chance to hear the wonderful details of wedding experiences from those who have recently been there. Our lovely couples have agreed to share their stories so others can learn everything about their one-of-a-kind wedding and the planning process.
Mandy & Tuan
Wedding Date: Saturday, August 7, 2021
Wedding Venue: Harborview Ballroom
Where are you originally from? Tuan and I are originally from Boston, Massachusetts. It’s only a short 25 minute drive to Danversport.
What do you do for work?
I am a Biostatistician at Northwestern University. My expertise in applied statistical methods is used to help epidemiologists, medical doctors, and researchers understand the effects of social environment and health behaviors on cardiovascular health.
How did you meet your bride or groom?
We met at a party and learned that we both attended Simmons College (now Simmons University). I was an undergraduate student working on my BS in Biostatistics and Tuan was a graduate student working on his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
What made you choose Danversport, and this venue/room specifically?
One of the things that we love is that Danversport’s Harborview Ballroom has lots of bright, natural light streaming into the spectacular room, sparkling off the chandeliers. I also love that we had the option of doing an indoor wedding ceremony in case of inclement weather.
I fell in love with the outdoor wedding ceremony space which has beautiful views of the water and boats! I was very impressed with Danversport’s many years of professional experience in hosting events as well. You can see that when all of their pricing on the wedding package already included taxes and fees just to make it easy on couples.
Additionally, their wedding menus offer a wide variety of options. The event coordinating team gave me the confidence that they would provide all the help needed quickly and efficiently in order for us to have the best wedding day possible. It was an easy decision for us!
How many guests did you have in attendance roughly?
We had approximately 200 guests.
What did you offer for food/drink catering?
Our menu was amazing. It included:
Hors D’oeuvres: Fruit Platter
Appetizer: New England Clam Chowder (Yummm!)
Salad: Caprese Salad
Entrees: Walnut Crusted Chicken and Seafood Trio
Dessert: Oreo Chocolate Mousse & Wedding Cake from JCakes
Beverages: Sangria Station & Deluxe Open Bar
What was the most magical, moving or special part of the wedding for you?
The entire wedding was magical to us!
We originally booked our venue in August 2019 and decided to spend two years planning our wedding so that we have time to enjoy the process together. When the pandemic hit in 2020, we had no idea if we could even have our wedding. At times, it felt impossible to have this wedding. Thankfully, we were able to have it with all 200 guests!
Throughout our wedding day, we made sure to pause, breathe, look at the people around us, and be grateful that everyone is healthy and were able to come together for us!
What was the theme of your wedding?
Our wedding themes were nautical, food, and travel.
Our wedding favors followed these themes with macarons (@Decadent_Eatz) and navy/royal blue leather luggage tags (@CurrysLeather) with the Boston skyline! The song for our first dance was a tribute to how much we love to travel!
What type of style was your dress?
My dress was the Jenna in White (@JennaInWhite) Yasmine ballgown. Straight princess vibes!
Who walked you down the aisle? I walked down the aisle by myself!
What was the song you danced to for your first dance? We danced to the Backstreet Boys, “No Place.”
What are/were your plans for your honeymoon?
That is to be determined in 1 or 2 years! We are open to suggestions. We hope to travel somewhere outside of the US.
Happily Ever After: We are so happy that Mandy and Tuan were able to celebrate their wedding day with us in exactly the way they envisioned. Thanks to their family and friends and their vigilant adherence to the safety guidelines during covid, they were able to happily and safely celebrate with all 200 of their guests. We are so happy for them and send them best wishes in the future!
