The “I Do” Interview: Meet Michaela & Mike

Welcome to this month’s installment of the “I Do” Interviews! This month our wedding series features a lovely and devoted couple, Michaela and Michael, who said vows on a beautiful  October day in 2021. Michaela and Mike chose to celebrate their reception in the gorgeous Terrace Ballroom and Waterfront Room combination where 165 family members and friends shared in their joy.

This interview series is meant to give future couples a chance to hear the wonderful details of wedding experiences from those who have recently been there. Our lovely couples have agreed to share their stories so others can learn everything about their one-of-a-kind wedding and the planning process.

Responses have been edited for length and clarity.

Wedding Date: October 3, 2021

Wedding Venue: Ceremony under the gazebo and reception in the Terrace Ballroom/Waterfront Room combination.

Where are you originally from?

I (Michaela) am originally from Medford, Massachusetts and my husband, Mike, is from Springfield, Massachusetts.

What do you do for work?

We are both accountants and actually met at our first job after college! We joke that the office Christmas party was a little crazy!

What made you choose Danversport, and this venue/room specifically?

When it came to choosing a wedding venue, I was all over the place. However, as soon as we drove into the long driveway of the Danversport, I had a special feeling.

We loved the curb appeal of the drive into the venue and then when we saw how our event space would overlook the water and have a beautiful space for a cocktail hour outside, we were sold. We also loved how the Terrace Ballroom and Waterfront Ballroom had doors that closed from cocktail hour to the reception so it was like a grand reveal!

How many guests did you have in attendance roughly? We had 145 friends and family at our wedding.

What did you offer for food/drink catering?

We consider ourselves big “foodies” so the menu was very important to us. We had the classic passed hors d’oeuvres but added the bacon-wrapped scallops and the crab cakes. That was a great choice!

Then we had the big charcuterie boards (being Italian that was a must) and offered our guests either Prime Rib or Chicken Piccata.

For dessert, we had a four-tier cake with vanilla, chocolate, and marble. Of course, we included a Venetian dessert display which people could not stop talking about! Everyone still raves about the food to this day.

What was the most magical, moving, or special part of the wedding for you?

The most magical part of our wedding for us was probably the ceremony held under the gazebo. We wrote our own vows and after postponing our reception last year, it was so special to read our vows in front of our family and friends.

The dancing (of course) was simply amazing too!

Did you have a wedding theme?

Although we did not have a wedding theme, we did use a color theme made up of lots of neutrals.

What type of style was your dress?

My dress was a Pnina Tornai from Kleinfeld. It was fit and flare with lace and beading as well as an open back that I’ve always dreamed of.

What was the song you danced to for your first dance?

Our first dance was Stay with You by John Legend.

Who walked you down the aisle? My father walked me down the aisle.

What are/were your plans for your honeymoon?

Although Greece was always our #1 idea for our Honeymoon, Covid had other plans for us… so we went to Denver, CO. While there, we hiked, ate a lot of amazing food, and got to explore a new city that we love doing together. Greece is now #1 on our bucket list for when we can safely travel.

Happy Ever After

After waiting until covid allowed family and friends to safely gather, Michaela and Mike finally said their “I Dos” under the gazebo overlooking the harbor. We wish this special couple a long and happy marriage and all the best the future has to offer! Congratulations.
