The “I Do” Interview: Meet Madeline & Adam

Welcome to this month’s installment of the “I Do” Interviews! This month our wedding series features a wonderful couple, Madeline & Adam, who said their vows in January of this year. They chose to celebrate both their ceremony and reception with us in the stunning Harborview Ballroom with their 178 family members and friends who all shared in their joy.

This interview series is meant to give future couples a chance to hear the wonderful details of wedding experiences from those who have recently been there. Our lovely couples have agreed to share their stories so others can learn everything about their one-of-a-kind wedding and the planning process.

Responses have been edited for length and clarity.

Madeline & Adam

Wedding Date – January 14, 2023

Event Space – Our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception were in the Harborview Ballroom

Where are you originally from?

I am from Marblehead, Massachusetts and Adam is from Concord, New Hampshire. We now live on Long Island with our pug, Didi.

What do you do for work?

I work as a research program manager for a neuroscience laboratory and Adam is an emergency medicine physician.

How did you meet your bride or groom?

We met on Tinder in 2014, but we didn’t just swipe right. The app glitched and matched us out of our geographic range. We celebrate this day every year as “existence day” – the day we first learned about one another. Our first date was two weeks later during our college winter break when Adam drove from New Hampshire to Massachusetts in a snowstorm. Fast forward to 2021, and he proposed on the beach in the same town I was in when I swiped right 7 years prior.

What made you choose Danversport, and this venue/room specifically?

Immediately upon walking into the venue, we were struck by the elegant chandeliers, high ceilings, and modern bars. There are so many beautiful locations on the property for both the ceremony and the reception, and many unique touches in the wedding packages that we had not seen anywhere else, including the gorgeous and delicious cake and personalized cocktail napkins.

How many guests did you have in attendance roughly?

We had 178 guests. We were excited to incorporate so many personal touches into our wedding, including the bingo card on our program.

This bingo card provided unique details about our guests so that people would mingle and feel comfortable and energized. Some of these bingo squares included, “ran 48 marathons,” “lead singer in a band,” “fluent in 3 or more languages,” “published novelist,” and “Emmy-Award winner.” We put a lot of time and effort into the program because we wanted something fun and different that people would enjoy reading and remember for a lifetime!

What did you offer for food/drink catering?

All of the food and bar services were incredible. With the deluxe open bar, we had a sangria station, tableside wine service during dinner, and his/her signature drinks – a Maple Old Fashioned and a Sparkling Cranberry Cocktail with Mint.

Of course, at a New England wedding, we had to incorporate some of the local foods. So, along with the passed appetizer package, we had mini lobster rolls during cocktail hour, as well as clam chowder as our first course.

We had Caesar salad for our next course, and then Chicken Piccata and Salmon for entrées. For dessert, we offered one of our favorite desserts, cheesecake with caramel and chocolate sauces. Our four-tiered wedding cake included delicious red velvet and funfetti layers.

What was the most magical, moving, or special part of the wedding for you?

The wedding dress worn by my mother, grandmother, and great-aunt was made into several different pieces for our wedding by a family friend. She repurposed the ice blue-colored fabric into my bouquet wrap and garter, among other now sentimental items.

What was the song you danced to for your first dance?

We danced to “You & Me” by Dave Matthews Band.

What style was your dress?

My dress was an ivory fit-and-flare with a long sleeve, lace, v-neck bodice, and a crepe skirt with a long train.

Who walked you down the aisle?

My dad walked me down the aisle, and Adam’s mom walked him down the aisle.

What are/were your plans for your honeymoon?

We spent 14 days in several wonderful cities in Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, and Granada. In addition to the beautiful and historic architecture, some of the highlights were attending a flamenco show, having lunch at one of the oldest restaurants in the world, and a tile-making class.

Happily Ever After

Congratulations to Madeline and Adam! We are thrilled that this lovely couple chose to spend their ceremony and reception at Danversport with all of their family and friends in attendance. We wish them much happiness as they begin their life together!
