The “I Do” Interview: Meet Krista & Scott

Welcome to this month’s installment of the “I Do” Interviews! This month our wedding series features a beautiful couple, Krista and Scott, who said their vows on a spectacular summer day in July of last year. They chose to celebrate their reception with us in the beautiful Harborview Ballroom with their 230 family members and friends who all shared in their joy.

This interview series is meant to give future couples a chance to hear the wonderful details of wedding experiences from those who have recently been there. Our lovely couples have agreed to share their stories so others can learn everything about their one-of-a-kind wedding and the planning process.

Responses have been edited for length and clarity.

Krista & Scott

Wedding Date – July 30, 2022

Event Space – Our ceremony was at the waterside gazebo at Danversport and our reception was in the Harborside Ballroom.

Where are you originally from?

Both Scott and I are originally from Melrose, Massachusetts.

What do you do for work?

I am a nurse and Scott is a firefighter.

How did you meet your bride or groom?

Scott and I recall seeing each other in passing over the course of fifteen years. Scott is my cousin’s best friend. Therefore, growing up in the same city, we would often be in the same place at the same time. We just never had the opportunity to sit down and talk.

It wasn’t until Christmas Eve, 2018 that we finally had that opportunity. No better conversation starter than our two dogs. Just after the New Year, we took our dogs on a date, and the rest is history!

What made you choose Danversport, and this venue/room specifically?

When it came to choosing a wedding venue, we knew we wanted to be on the water. We are avid boaters and love the essence of summer which meant getting married on the water was a must!

We visited several venues that fit the vibe we were looking for. However, no other venue left us feeling that “wow” factor quite like Danversport did. The venue as a whole was able to bring stunning views of the water into the open and airy ballroom.

Immediately when walking into the Harborview Ballroom, Scott and I knew we found the perfect venue for our special day. From the grand crystal chandelier, the light and bright cathedral ceilings, to the gorgeous views from the sun deck-it was love at first sight!

How many guests did you have in attendance roughly?

We had approximately 230 friends and family members on our wedding day.

What did you offer for food/drink catering?

During cocktail hour, our guests were greeted with the sangria station, charcuterie display, and six passed hors d’oeuvres. Our choices were shrimp cocktail, scallops wrapped with bacon, watermelon & feta skewers, chicken cordon bleu, coconut chicken, and spanakopita.

As a part of the deluxe open bar package, our guests sat down for dinner beginning with tableside wine service. Guests started their meals with the strawberry salad.

For entrées, we offered the choice between filet mignon or seafood trio. Vegetarian guests were served the edamame dumpling/quinoa dish. Several guests told us that the dumplings were the best vegetarian option they had ever been served at a wedding!

For dessert, we offered Oreo chocolate mousse and had a four-tier wedding cake. We chose to upgrade the design and flavors of our cake. Our choices for cake flavor and filling consisted of chocolate with raspberry mousse, lemon with lemon mousse, Funfetti with cream cheese, and marble with cookie dough filling.

To this day, Scott and I have received rave reviews about all the food served at our wedding and we couldn’t have been happier with everything!

What was the most magical, moving, or special part of the wedding for you?

The most special part of our entire wedding day was meeting Scott on the dock for our first look! It allowed us to share the incredible moment together, in a more private setting. We both found it eased our nerves and that the moment was truly ours.

In doing so, we were able to finish all formal photography for us, our families, and the wedding party prior to the ceremony. It was amazing to actually be able to attend our own cocktail hour!

Did you have a wedding theme?

The overall theme of our wedding was an elegant take on a nautical motif incorporating colors of navy and rose gold.

What was the song you danced to for your first dance?

Our first dance was to (Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding.

What style was your dress?

My dress was a Berta from her Milano Couture Collection. The style was strapless, with a sweetheart neckline and a fitted silhouette. It consisted of lace, floral embroidery, and appliqués with a dramatic long train and corset bodice.

Oddly enough, my dress was the easiest decision I made throughout planning for our wedding!

Who walked you down the aisle?

My uncle walked me down the aisle. In remembrance of my late father, I attached an inscribed photo charm to my bouquet reading “walk with me today dad.”

What are/were your plans for your honeymoon?

Our plans for our honeymoon were to first start with a mini-moon and plan our full honeymoon for the fall. We chose to travel to The Cape two days post-wedding. This allowed for a couple of days between our wedding and traveling was the smartest decision we made!

In the fall, we left for our 17-night honeymoon. We started by spending one night in San Francisco and two nights in Napa Valley. The remaining two weeks were spent island hopping throughout Hawaii. We visited Maui, The Big Island, and O’ahu. Of the three islands, Maui was our favorite! Although it was an extremely long trip, it was definitely well worth it!
