Welcome to this month’s installment of the “I Do” Interviews! This month our wedding series features a lovely couple, Katherine and Evan, who said their vows on a beautiful day in June this year. They chose to celebrate their ceremony at the gazebo and reception with us in the Terrace Ballroom and Waterfront Ballroom with their 148 family members and friends who all shared in their joy.
This interview series is meant to give future couples a chance to hear the wonderful details of wedding experiences from those who have recently been there. Our lovely couples have agreed to share their stories so others can learn everything about their one-of-a-kind wedding and the planning process.
Responses have been edited for length and clarity.
Kathrine & Evan
Wedding Date – June 2023
Event Space – We had our ceremony at the Danversport gazebo outdoors and then used the dual event space of the Terrace Ballroom and Waterfront Ballroom for our reception.
Where are you originally from?
I am originally from Connecticut and Evan is from Southern New Hampshire. We met and fell in love in Boston, and now we live in Salem, MA.
What do you do for work?
I am a data analyst at a media agency based in Boston, and Evan is a mechanical engineer at a medical device company in Beverly.
How did you meet your bride or groom?
Evan and I met on Tinder in the summer of 2016. We went on our first date at Carrie Nation in Boston, and the rest is history!
What made you choose Danversport, and this venue/room specifically?
When we first visited Danversport, we immediately knew it was where we wanted to get married. We loved the idea of getting married near the water and were attracted to the nautical feel that Danversport had. The outdoor grounds were beautiful, and the décor was so grand and elegant. We could picture the wedding we always dreamed of coming to life here!
We were estimating around 150 guests, so the Terrace Ballroom was the best fit for the size. We chose to add the Waterfront Room to have extra space and give our guests access to the beautiful outdoor patio.
How many guests did you have in attendance roughly?
We had approximately 148 of our family and friends at our wedding reception and ceremony.
What did you offer for food/drink catering?
For drinks, we did the signature open bar with the sangria station, and we offered the cabernet sauvignon and sauvignon blanc with dinner. We also offered a Signature cocktail called “The Kiwi” (named after our beloved miniature dachshund named Kiwi), which was a mix of vodka, kiwi puree, lime juice, and soda water.
For food, we did the classic package of hors d’oeuvres with Atlantic Salmon and Cider Glazed Chicken as the entrée selections. For dessert, we had a four-tiered chocolate cake with Bon Bons.
What was the most magical, moving, or special part of the wedding for you?
There were so many special moments of the day, it’s hard to pick just one!
Evan and I did a first look and exchanged private vows before the ceremony which was beautiful and intimate. Having that private time with just each other (plus our photographers and videographers calmed our nerves and made us even more excited to tie the knot shortly afterward.
My dances with my father and grandfather during the reception were also very special and the perfect way to kick off the party!
What was the song you danced to for your first dance?
We danced to “A Moment Like This” by Kelly Clarkson.
What style was your dress?
I wore a strapless, sheath ivory dress with a sweetheart neckline and a long train.
Who walked you down the aisle?
My father walked me down the aisle to an orchestra cover of “Enchanted” by Taylor Swift. Just as we started walking down the aisle it began to rain, which made for a very memorable entrance!
What are/were your plans for your honeymoon?
We went to Portland, Maine for our minimoon right after the wedding. We stayed at the Inn by the Sea, and it was the perfect way to unwind after the wedding. We are going to Australia and New Zealand for our honeymoon later this fall which we are so excited about!
Happily Ever After
Congratulations to Katherine and Evan as they begin their life’s journey together. We are so happy that we were able to be a part of your momentous day. We wish them much happiness as they begin their life together!
