The “I Do” Interview: Meet Hayley & Ty

Welcome to this month’s installment of the “I Do” Interviews! This month our wedding series features a wonderful couple, Hayley and Ty, who said their vows on a lovely spring day this year. They chose to celebrate both their ceremony and reception with us in the stunning Harborview Ballroom with their 185 family members and friends who all shared in their joy.

This interview series is meant to give future couples a chance to hear the wonderful details of wedding experiences from those who have recently been there. Our lovely couples have agreed to share their stories so others can learn everything about their one-of-a-kind wedding and the planning process.

Responses have been edited for length and clarity.

Wedding Date – April 2023

Event Space – We used the gazebo for our ceremony and the Harborview Ballroom for our reception.

Where are you originally from?

I am from Beverly, Massachusetts and Ty is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

What do you do for work?

I am in advertising and Ty is in sales.

How did you meet your bride or groom?

We met our freshman year at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio at a party. Ty introduced himself multiple times throughout the night, and the rest is history.

What made you choose Danversport, and this venue/room specifically?

We knew from the beginning that we wanted a wedding on the North Shore. While we visited a few different venues, Danversport was the first we saw officially, and it was pretty much a given from the moment we walked in.

It was a cold January day, and even then the natural lighting and views were just stunning. There was no beating the windows in the Harborview Ballroom for us, and on top of that, we loved the all-inclusive planning approach.

How many guests did you have in attendance roughly?

We had approximately 185 family and friends at our wedding.

What did you offer for food/drink catering?

We chose the deluxe hors d’oeuvres for cocktail hour (with a few swaps) and added the mini lobster rolls. Our guests were absolutely raving about all of the hors d’oeuvres we picked, and one of our only regrets is not eating more of them ourselves.

For dinner, we went with the wedding stations and served roast tenderloin of beef and the seafood trio. Guests loved being able to mix and match what they served themselves.

We also had a four-tier, lemon-flavored cake as well as assorted desserts and coffee. We topped this off with a traditional Pittsburgh Cookie Table as a nod to Ty’s hometown.

Lastly, we served late-night chicken tenders and fries and went with the deluxe open bar. It was a must for our friends and family.

What was the most magical, moving, or special part of the wedding for you?

The best part of our wedding was having all of our people in one place. Our guests traveled from 15 different states, plus Canada and South Africa, to celebrate with us and it meant more to us than anything else in the world. It was so special looking around the ballroom to see all of those people in one place, and we wish we could make it happen every weekend.

What was the song you danced to for your first dance?

We danced to “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green. We wanted something classic that we’d never get sick of in the many years to come!

Did you have a wedding theme?

We didn’t necessarily have a theme, but our colors were different shades of green, with cream and burnt orange mixed in.

What style was your dress?

I wore the “Peters” dress from Pronovias. It was a mermaid-style dress with a v-neck and cap sleeves. It was very simple in the front but then had a surprise lace-back detail with a royal train. I loved how different the back and the front were. It was the perfect mix of timeless, but a little different at the same time.

Who walked you down the aisle?

My dad walked me down the aisle (with a broken foot).

What are/were your plans for your honeymoon?

We went to the Maldives two weeks after our wedding! We were so exhausted from the weekend, it was definitely the right decision to push it out a little so we got to truly enjoy ourselves. It was absolutely incredible and more than lived up to the hype! We spent the week snorkeling on beautiful reefs and relaxing on the beach. We also had long layovers in Qatar each way, which was an absolutely incredible country to explore.

Happily Ever After

Congratulations to Hayley and Ty. We are so happy that we could be a part of their ceremony and reception where they were able to gather all of their closest friends and family. It’s truly amazing that we had guests from so many states and countries! We wish you the best of luck in the future and years of happiness.
