The “I Do” Interviews: Meet Our January Bride, Laura

Welcome to the “I Do” Interviews! This month our series features Laura and Tim, who said their vows on a spectacular autumn day this year and celebrated with family and friends in the Harborview Ballroom at Danversport.

This bridal interview series is meant to give future brides a chance to hear the wonderful details of bridal experiences from those who have recently been there. Our beautiful brides have agreed to share their stories so others can hear about everything from their one-of-a-kind wedding, to their perfect partner, at a picture-perfect venue.

MARRIED October 26, 2019

WHERE ARE YOU ORIGINALLY FROM?  Thank you for such a cool opportunity to share my wedding experience with you! I was born and raised in Waltham. Tim and I live in Brighton now.

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR WORK?  I am the Operations Manager at CS Driving School in Waltham.

HOW DID YOU MEET YOUR PARTNER? I met Tim through our mutual friend and Tim’s best man, Jake. I was introduced to him in Framingham in November 2016.

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE DANVERSPORT AND THE BALLROOM SPECIFICALLY? The chandelier, literally, and Paul! Shortly after we got engaged, Tim and I started searching for venues. Danversport was recommended to my mom by our neighbor. When we walked into the ballroom, we were completely blown away by the chandelier! I could not stop looking up. Although we did not have an appointment, Paul still met us with open arms. He was just so kind and made everything sound so simple (we found out that he was true to his word). We did leave that afternoon and looked at a few other venues, but there was absolutely no comparison. We returned the following week to book our date.

WHAT MENU DID YOU CHOOSE FOR CATERING? We offered one hour open bar with the champagne station for guests when they entered. We also had the Deluxe Hors d’oeuvres package which was something that was really important to us. Our Mass was at 2pm, so we knew that our guests would be hungry when they arrived at 5pm, and we wanted them to have the opportunity to eat as much, or as little, as they wanted! Tim also suggested the shrimp cocktail shooters which ended up being the tastiest shrimp we ever had! When the reception began, we had Italian wedding soup and salad, followed by the option of Statler Chicken and Prime Rib. Our guests cannot stop raving about the rib and how amazing it was.

WHAT WAS THE MOST MAGICAL MOMENT OF THE WEDDING FOR YOU?  The entire day was incredible, but my two most treasured moments were walking down the aisle, and about halfway down, I looked up and saw Tim. I kept it together through the entire wedding planning process and into the beginning of the day, but as I was walking with my dear dad listening to our beautiful cantor singing Ave Maria, I looked up and saw Tim at the altar. I was so overcome with emotion. The second great moment was after our bridal party was introduced and before we were introduced, Mike at Black Tie Video created a masterpiece video called “Instant Replay.” It started out with a slideshow of about 50 photos of Tim and I and our guests. We could hear people clap when attending guests flashed up on the screen. The slideshow was followed by footage from our actual wedding day – just hours before! We were watching the video from outside the door and it gave us chills!

DID YOU HAVE A WEDDING THEME OR WEDDING COORDINATOR? We did not really have a wedding theme. I just knew that I wanted everything to be white and gold. When I saw the ballroom, and the gold chiavari chairs, it totally matched the image that I had in my mind. Our florist, Bridget from Centre Pieces Design in Brighton, did an incredible job matching the “theme” too. The centerpieces and bouquets were beautiful. She added some greenery which really added a little spice to the tables! We did not have a wedding planner, but our day-of wedding coordinator was Ron. He was always there at just the right time. I remember thinking “what do we do now,” then turned around to Ron telling us exactly what needed to be done. He made our day flawless.

WHAT STYLE WAS YOUR DRESS? Oh, my dress!!!! It was a layered ball gown made by Mori Lee. I had the most fun spinning around in that dress all night. Adriano Batti, our photographer, did such a good job capturing the most special spinning moments! My grandmother’s cousin, Margherita, handpicked my dress and altered it like a piece of art. She is the owner of La Sposa Bridal in Newton, and she had this dress picked out for me when I went to my first dress appointment. It was only the second one I tried on and I bought it on the spot. The dress was perfect, but we did it up even more with the belt and cathedral veil with silver gems that made it pop! The back of the dress was open, so I knew I wanted to have my hair up to show off the back. My hair stylist, Mary from Jason B. William Salon in Waltham did exactly what I was looking for. My make up artist, Heather, also from Jason B. William, did the most simple, but elegant make up. It all went together so well and I felt so beautiful.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST DANCE SONG CHOICE? Tim and I danced to Perfect Symphony by Ed Sheeran and Andrea Bocelli. That was another special moment for us. We absolutely love the song, but we added a special twist with the Bocelli version. Halfway through the song, Bocelli starts singing in Italian. It was so beautiful. This is probably a good place to say how unbelievable our band was. Legit Band from Waltham led by Ron Vanaria. They really kept the party going. Classy and just fabulous. Lots of raving fans of Legit!

WHO WALKED YOU DOWN THE AISLE?  My dad, Bob. I didn’t know if he was going to make it out of the door, haha! When we got to the church, and were lining up, my dad got choked up. I told him to breathe and gave him a nice pat on the back. Mike caught this on video and played it during the instant replay. My dad was just so overcome with emotion, gratitude, for such a special moment. As soon as the doors open, our church coordinator and limo driver said “smile!” and we were off. It was breathtaking.

WHAT WERE YOUR PLANS FOR A HONEYMOON? Tim and I just got back from a 13 day honeymoon to Dubai and Bali. We spent 3 days in Dubai seeing the beautiful buildings and deserts! Then, we flew to Bali for 10 days. We stayed at the St. Regis resort in Nusa Dua and then Komaneka at Bisma in Ubud. The beaches, cliffs, volcanoes and monkeys were such a treat. We had an incredible time, and we are glad to be back with our family and friends reminiscing on the most magical wedding!

This beautiful and emotional wedding brought us all to tears of joy for this couple. Laura, our bride thought of everything right down to the smallest detail. Guests will be talking about this night for a long time to come!

We felt so honored to have Laura and Tim celebrate their big day with us here at Danversport. A beautiful day, with a beautiful couple made for a perfect wedding from beginning to end. Read other “I Do” Interviews to get a sneak peek into the lives of brides married at Danversport.
