Summer Wedding Planning Tips

Weddings during summer time are ripe for the picking. Summer is by far the most popular season for weddings. The beautiful weather allows for an equally beautiful outdoor ceremony, surrounded by friends, family, and loved ones, all enjoying themselves in your presence. However, summer can also spell disaster for those looking to get married. It can be oppressively hot, insects abound, and you and your guests run the risk of getting a nasty sunburn. So how can you avoid the mess and still have a fabulous summer wedding? Let’s take a look:

Vacation time

First, you should try to schedule your wedding on a federal holiday weekend such as the 4th of July or Labor Day. That way, your guests will be able to attend without sacrificing vacation time. Be sure to give your guests enough time to plan a trip to your wedding. Invitations should be sent 3 months ahead for a destination wedding, or 6-8 weeks ahead for a local one.

Consider the weather

The last thing you want is to get a sunburn on your wedding day, just in time for your honeymoon. Similarly, try to schedule your ceremony either in the late morning (around 10 am) or mid afternoon (3 pm or later), so you’ll miss the oppressive heat and save you and your guests from unnecessary discomfort.

Dress for the weather

Similar to the above, you should dress appropriately for the weather. Be sure you and your groom wear sunscreen and other products with SPF. To help stay cool, an option for brides is to wear a tea-length dress, which stops at the calf, a little below the knee. For the groom, consider wearing a tuxedo of lightweight material, like cotton or linen. An outdoor wedding has a more relaxed dress code than a church ceremony, so take advantage of this.
