A common tradition in the wedding planning process is the rehearsal dinner, and there’s a lot more that can go into it than just practicing your walk to Bridal Chorus, though this should not be overlooked. Indeed, the rehearsal dinner sets the tone for the big day. While this should be a time for relaxation before the festivities begin, there is a certain importance it holds. Let’s take a look:
- Purpose – As previously stated, the rehearsal dinner is usually a more relaxed time. Traditionally, it comes at the expense of the groom’s family. However, as many of us are looking to break from tradition, the bride’s family may choose to pitch in or pay for it entirely. Either way, the rehearsal dinner serves as a practice run of the main parts of the ceremony and reception, including speeches. Speaking of which, reserve speeches on your wedding day for the best man, the maid of honor, and even the ‘rents. If other people, such as grandparents or close friends, want to give speeches, they can do so at the rehearsal dinner. Otherwise, too many speeches on your wedding day could run the risk of drying out the ceremony.
- Guests to invite – Obviously you can’t invite all the guests who are to attend your wedding. There is, though, a method to the madness; the members of both wedding parties should all be present, as well as parents and grandparents. Additionally, you may choose to invite close friends and even closer cousins. It’s all really up to you, whom you can reasonably accommodate.
- Last-minute reminders – One thing that is imperative is that everyone knows where to go and can assume their respective positions flawlessly. In addition, you can remind people of the schedule, including when to be ready and where to be present.
