Weddings are a time to be shared between family, friends, and loved ones. Everyone loves a good wedding, but there’s a lot that goes into planning it, specifically money! So how can you throw your dream wedding without breaking the bank? Let’s explore some money saving tips so you can stress less about your big day:
- Right place, right time – A popular day to have a wedding is Saturday. It’s convenient for most everyone invited, as they have the day off from work. It’s a little-known fact, though, that this is usually the most expensive day to say your ‘I do’s”. Aim, instead, for a Monday-holiday wedding so your guests can still make it. Additionally, there is such a thing as wedding season: May, June, September, and October. Having your wedding at the end of the off-season (early winter through spring) is a great way to save money. Finally, you should take time to save and plan between your engagement and the actual day of your wedding. This gives you time to book in advance so the prices won’t go up.
- Finding fair-priced food – Far too often, traditional wedding food (think chicken & fish) is actually pretty lackluster. And who wants to go the traditional route on every aspect of their wedding anyway? This is your day, so make it memorable. There are many cheaper food options to choose from, so find something a little cheaper and your guests will love it. While we’re on the topic of food, you can easily cut the price of your cake, believe it or not! You can have your baker easily fake a multi-tiered wedding cake with cardboard bottom tiers and a real cake on top for you and your sweetheart. The servers can sneak slices of sheet cake from the kitchen area and your guests would be none the wiser.
- Let people help – It’s fairly common for guests and other wedding-goers to offer to help during the planning stage. It’s equally as common for the bride-to-be to decline help so as to no burden her guests with responsibilities. I’d like to convince any prospective brides to be who may be reading this to break this habit. I know it all too well, I’m guilty of declining help even when I know need it. If someone offers to pick up flowers, desserts, or anything else, let them! This will save you from having to pay delivery fees.
Just because you’re getting married doesn’t mean you have to spend all your money to make your day special.
