Halloween Decorations

When it comes to decorating for Halloween at the beginning of October, there are tons of accessories you can purchase in the stores, and projects you can do yourself. Nothing is more authentic in the home than some DIY crafts and projects that you all worked on together. Everyone is passionate about the holidays, and decorating gets everyone in the spirit. These projects and decorating tips are perfect for families looking for some fun this season. Read through this blog for a creativity boost this October.

Halloween Lanterns
Mason jars are useful for so many DIY crafts! Grab some mason jars you aren’t using, or purchase a few new ones. Paint and decorate the outside of the jars, and insert a battery-operated light to illuminate the jars at night. These jars will look SO cool, and you can decorate them any way you wish.

Scarecrows
Make your own scarecrow with some old clothes, a pair of boots, and a cap. Grab a few bales of hay, and stuff a shirt and a pair of pants after tying the ends of the sleeves and pant legs. Use a pumpkin for the head, and sit your scarecrow on a bale of hay in your front yard or your garden. Prop him up with a pair of boots, a cap on this head, and even a watering can or flowers as accessories next to him. Your scarecrow will be an authentic, homemade touch to your October decorating.

The Classic Pumpkin Carving
Carve pumpkins outdoors on a warm, October afternoon. Choose your favorite face, design, or decoration, and carve something exciting. Look into carving kits with the proper tools to help you, as this will make the carving process much easier for you.

Save Your Pumpkin Seeds
When you carve your pumpkins, save your seeds! Bake them in the oven, and use them in all kinds of Autumn recipes. Use the seeds in crafts and for decoration. Fill a vase with seeds at the bottom. Create a faux flower arrangement with sunflowers and fall-colored leaves: browns, greens, and oranges.

Other simple decorations can be placed around the house to get you and your family in the spirit. A little goes a LONG way! Hang a decorative flag outside your door. Decorate and cut out paper leaves, and string them around doorways and in the kids’ bedrooms. String lights with them, and turn them on at night to illuminate your home. Look for accessories like fall doormats, tablecloths, and shower curtains that you can swap out with your originals.
